A semiconductor is an electronic component that utilises conduction in the solid state and is most commonly manufactured as a single discrete device (such as a diode or transistor), or as integrated circuits (ICs) which may incorporate multiple devices within a single semiconductor.

Semiconductor materials vary greatly and include silicon, germanium, gallium arsenide and more, including organic semiconductor materials. Semiconductor materials can be physically manipulated to alter behaviour of conductivity or by introducing electric & magnetic fields, heat, or light.
